Rock band Pre-Reqs

Intermediate Rock Band Req’s:

Overall: Have 1+ yrs experience playing your instrument / have a basic overall understanding of how to play in rhythm  / be willing and able to learn song parts on your own (or be actively taking private lessons to assist)

Guitar:  Be able to play the majority of open chords, plus ability to play power chords and barre chords / ability to follow basic chord charts for songs / ability to be able to learn basic guitar tablature, and learn basic guitar riffs and solo’s

Bass: Be able to play basic bass lines for rock songs / have a basic knowledge of the fretboard as to finding notes, following with chord charts / ability to be able to learn basic bass tablature

Keys: Be able to follow basic chord charts for songs, have an understanding of standard chords on the keyboard / ability to play basic melodies on the keyboard

Drums: Ability to play in rhythm with stability throughout a song / have an understanding of the drum set parts and be able to take cues from an instructor

Vocals:  Have a general ability to sing in key with a song, memorize lyrics /  If accompanying with instrument, be able to sing and play in rhythm to basic songs

Advanced Rock Band Req’s:

Overall: Have 3+ yrs experience playing your instrument / have a strong overall understanding of how to play in rhythm / play by ear / be willing and able to learn song parts on your own (or be actively taking private lessons to assist)

Guitar:  Be well-versed in all open chords, strong ability to play movable chord shapes / ability to follow chord charts on sight for songs / ability to be able to learn more advanced guitar tablature, and learn advanced guitar riffs and solo’s

Bass: Be able to play a variety of bass lines for rock songs with strong technique / have a full knowledge of the fretboard as to finding notes, following with chord charts / ability to be able to learn advanced bass tablature

Keys: Be able to follow chord charts for songs, have an understanding of a wide variety of chords / inversions on the keyboard / ability to play more advanced melodies on the keyboard

Drums: Ability to play in strong rhythm throughout a song / play in multiple time signatures / have a full understanding of the drum set parts and be able to take cues from an instructor

Vocals:  Have a strong ability to sing in key with a song, memorize lyrics /  If accompanying with instrument, be able to sing and play in strong rhythm to basic songs. Be willing to practice more advanced vocal techniques.
